Lubennikov Ivan was born in 1951 in Minsk.

He was a People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Laureate of the Russian Government Prize, Knight of the Order of Friendship, and a professor at the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute. He studied in Moscow at the secondary art school (1963-1970) and graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute with a degree in painting. Then, in 1976 he graduated from the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov in the class of monumental painting. He is the author of the design of the facades of theaters, museums, and interiors of the subway.

His works combine unique clarity, freshness, pictorial experiment, and wit. It is typical for his art to combine landscapes and still lives or portraits. This artistic feature can be seen in his work A Lemon in Winter.
