Bogolubov Aleksey is a famous Russian painter. After graduating from a cadet corps, he was in the Navy and visited many countries. Since 1849 he visited classes at the Academy of Fine Arts. Ivan Aivasovsky had a big influence on him.
Having brilliantly graduated from the Academy of Arts, Alexei Petrovich continued his studies abroad: in Geneva – with Alexandre Calame, in Paris – with Eugène Louis Gabriel Isabey, in Düsseldorf – with Andreas Achenbach. In 1858 he earned the title of academician and later of professor of painting. The story of the creation of the painting View of Venice (the Doge’s Palace) began in 1853, when Bogolubov, having graduated from the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts with a Golden medal got an opportunity to travel abroad. It was the time when he visited Venice.
