Galimbaeva Aisha is a painter and film artist, the first professional Kazakh female artist, a member of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan since 1951, the People’s Artist of the Kazakh SSR, a laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR named after Ch. She was born in Issyk, Alma-Ata region. In 1943 she graduated with honors from the Almaty Art School named after N.V. Gogol, where she studied under L.P. Leontiev, A.I. Bortnikov, A.M. Cherkassky. In 1949 she graduated from the art and decoration faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, specializing as a film director. She dedicated a significant portion of her time to rigorous research on traditional Kazakh art, the distinctive characteristics of the arts and crafts, and the national attire of Kazakhs. Her album «Kazakh folk costume», which included 60 drawings of costumes for different occasions, was published in 1958.
Aisha Galimbaeva’s work is marked with decorative colour, graphic lines, and in general a life-affirming, optimistic mood. The artist is praising not only the beauty of her native land and its customs but also the beauty of a Kazakh woman, being inspired sometimes even by the most ordinary scenes. Thus, many images were created to praise the strength of a woman and her inner and outer beauty. One such work is Galimbaeva’s painting Singing Girls, presented in the museum’s exposition.
