Ledyaev Sergey is a painter, graphic artist, ceramic artist and photographer. He was born in Almaty. From 1988 to 1991 Sergey Ledyaev studied at the Almaty Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Faculty of Architecture. In 1996 he graduated from the Faculty of Art and Graphics at the Almaty State Institute named after Abay. He has participated in republican and international exhibitions.

His artistic language is metaphoric and light, the spiritual world attracts and gives purification. A subtle combination of olive and ochre tones, the feeling of a special, not natural, but spiritual light gives the artist’s paintings a transcendental sound, which means that they are beyond the limits of any sphere or the whole world. Such is the canvas On the Sky River.

The origin of this work is connected with Semipalatinsk, with the international art project “Flying Tatar”, which took place in October 2006.

The keynote of the project was the romantic story of the flight of Gali Sarybaev, the “Semipalatinsk Leonardo da Vinci”, who realised the eternal human dream of flying. In the 1980s, in a provincial town far from the capitals, a talented self-taught craftsman builed a flying boat. On it he flied across the mighty Irtysh River.

The theme is about flight, dreams and their realisation. It inspired creative people in Russia, Kazakhstan, Italy and the USA who participated in the project, and was embodied in the work of Sergei Ledyaev.
