Vorobyova Elena is a painter, graphic artist, photographer, and author of installations, video art, and performances.

She was born in the city of Nebit-Dag (now Balkanabad) in Turkmenistan. In 1979 she graduated from the design department of the Almaty Art School named after N.V. Gogol, the Almaty Theater Art Institute, department of monumental and decorative painting in1990. She is an active participant in city, republican, and international exhibitions and projects. The artist lives and works in Almaty.

Elena Vorobyova uses different techniques and genres, and as a result, which result in multi-layered and often ironic works. Starting with fragments the artist gradually forms the whole image, capturing ephemeral and imperceptible details of everyday life, private characteristics, and things and phenomena that sometimes go unnoticed. Using a very light and ironic approach, Vorobyeva presents the surrounding reality in a new way, exposing its social and cultural background. Such is the painting A Can of Black Ink, presented in the museum’s exhibition.
