Menlibayeva Almagul is an artist, video artist, film director, and author of performances and installations. She is a winner of “Tarlan” and “Daryn” awards.
The artist was born in Alma-Ata and took private lessons from Gani Bayanov from 1984-1985, then attended the art studio of Sergey Maslov from 1985 to 1987. In 1992 she graduated from the State Theatrical and Art Institute named after Zhurgenov, Department of Decorative and Artistic Arts. In 1987-1995 she was a member of the group “A Green Triangle”. Nowadays the artist lives and works in Berlin and Almaty. She is an active participant in the city, republican, and international exhibitions.
Menlibayeva is close to the sign and image system. With a rich imagination, the master creates amazing works that evoke associations with ancient Turkic mythological plots. Her improvisations are often akin to pagan and shamanic traditions. Her work contains images that are unexpected in meaning, mythical creatures that do not have the characteristics of a specific animal. This is a world of fantasy, children’s fairy tales, and reveries, combined with aspiration to eternity. The Composition presented in the museum’s exposition is an example of that.
