An unknown artist applies to Roman mythology. Aurora, the goddess of morning dawn is depicted here against the background of the cloudy sky, in the wind-shaken transparent raiment. She is the most laborious goddess of all. Every morning before the golden ray of the sun-god Helios has lit up the vault of heaven Aurora harnesses her three-horse carriage, runs in it over the Earth, and awakens all the nature. She is holding a vessel with a fragrant odor.  Rose-Fingered Eos – this was the epithet used by the ancient Greek storyteller Homer to express the beauty of the goddess.

In the painting Aurora of the museum collection Mercury, the messenger of the gods, accompanies the goddess. With his golden herald’s wand entwined by two serpents, he sends to sleep and awakens people and everything around. Besides the wand, Mercury has some other attributes:  winged shoes and a winged helm. This helm is the center of magical power.
