Mambeyev Sabyr is a painter, the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, the Honoured Art Worker of Kazakhstan, and a member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

He was born in the village of Abai-Bazar in the South Kazakhstan region. In 1946 he graduated from the Almaty Art School, and the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture named after I.E. Repin in 1953. He studied under V. Anisovich, M. Avilov. All his life he lived and worked in Almaty.

Mambeyev belongs to the few artists, so-called Kazakhstani “sixties”, who even earlier in the early fifties refused the academic manner of painting and created the style of their works. He often combines realistic images with folk tradition. The exposition of our museum presents the work of Sabyr Mambeyev called In my Town.
