Sidorkin Yevgeny is a graphic artist and a monumental painter. He is the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, the Honoured Art Worker of Kazakhstan, a laureate of the State Prize of Kazakhstan, and a member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

He was born in the village Lebyazhiy, Kirov region, and graduated from the art school in Kazan, then from the Academy of Arts in Riga and the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin. Since 1957 he lived and worked in Alma-Ata.

The artist was fascinated by the peculiar art of the Kazakh people, their rich folklore, and their history. Sidorkin worked a lot in the genre of portraiture. Tursun-Azhe is a work from the series The War and Labour Veterans. It is one of many portraits made by the artist using the technique of original graphics. He creates this image, which evokes a sense of belonging and empathy, through his mastery of pastel and charcoal drawing.
