Lizogub Maria is an artist and the Honoured Art Worker of the KazSSR.

She was born in the city of Nikolaev. In 1940 she graduated from the Kiev Art Institute. She studied under F. Krichevsky and M. Sharonov. Since 1941 Maria Lizogub worked in Almaty. She was a participant in many exhibitions since 1940.

Maria Lizogub’s art is devoted to the chamber and everyday scenes. She is especially attracted by the image of the Kazakh woman, her wisdom and firmness as epic features of the national character. The colourful interior of the Kazakh yurt also appeals to her. Both as a place to live and, in many ways, as the work of skilled women’s hands. This is reflected in the painting Still Life with a Kumgan.
