Named after the Nevzorov Family Museum of Visual Arts. This name is known by everybody in our town and the Republic and Yuliy Vladimirovich Nevzorov’s name is of great importance here.
A Moscow collector, and engineer, he had extensive knowledge of Art History, passionately loved paintings, and dedicated all his life to fine art collecting. He presented our museum with a big part of his collection – 569 artworks in total!
In 1987 Yuliy Vladimirovich, together with his wife, Antonida Mikhailovna visited our town with an exhibition. Those days the museum was just a newborn. And there it was, the artworks of famous Russian and Soviet artists of the 18th 19th, and 20th centuries had appeared in the young museum halls. The visitors could enjoy the wonderful landscapes of I. Levitan and A. Savrasov, marvelous forests created by I. Shichkin, emotional, full of vivid impressions works, made by K. Korovin, and deep understanding of the human world in the portraits, made by V.Tropinin. Almost the whole exhibition had been left by Yuliy Nevzorov in the museum as a present. With this exhibition, he left in our town one part of his soul. Are there many of us who could dare to do that?
One cannot underestimate the importance of Yuliy Nevzorov’s work. He not only collected the paintings, but he also saved some of the artworks from imminent destruction.
The museum is now one of the city’s main cultural attractions. The artists think it an honor to have in the museum their exhibitions, and tourists include it on their list of the most important cultural places of Kazakhstan. And every time a big portrait of “a great man” meets guests while they are entering the museum. This is a man of great soul and great love for art.
It is already 14 years since Yuliy Vladimirovich passed away but every year on January 30 we celebrate his birthday. We thank him for his donation and the intimate place of hopefulness, brightness, and goodness we have now in our town. We thank him for this example of great generosity and greatheartedness and tell him
